Description: A convoy of lorries carrying bridging equipment and assault dinghies for use by 15th (Kent) GHQ Troops RE in the operation is seen moving up the road towards Vernon. Smoke shells from artillery supporting the 43rd (Wessex) Division fall on the limestone cliffs on the German-held north bank of the river. A section from the 5th Battalion Wiltshire Regiment's 'A' company advances from the streets of Vernon to the river bank under the cover of a smokescreen, which fills the surrounding area. The troops board their assault dinghies manned by steersman from 583 Field Company RE and are taken through the smoke screen to the north bank of the Seine.
