- Title: DUTCH LANDINGS ON BALI [Allocated Title]
- Film Number: JFU 531
- Other titles: BRITISH ARMY OPERATIONS IN SOUTH EAST ASIA DURING THE SECOND WORLD WAR [Allocated Series Title]
- Summary: A British Army cameraman accompanies Dutch forces as they make an amphibious landing on the island of Bali in the Netherlands East Indies (Indonesia).
- Description: Five LCAs (Landing Craft Assault) in line abreast with LCA 1180 nearest camera. LCA 1466 (?) and 1117 (?) manoeuvring. Landing craft heading for shore. Approaching the beach; a Japanese party of officers and civil officials can be seen waiting on the beach. A good shot of Dutch troops running up the beach with movement in both foreground and background. Japanese representatives. An attractive shot of the beach, looking out to sea, with a large transport ship and a smaller ship (probably a Landing Ship Tank, LST) in the distance, LCAs in the midground, and activity on the beach in the foreground. A Balinese girl, apparently the wife of a Belgian artist, chats with Allied officers. In the town of Denpasa (Denpasar) the camera pans around a group of civilians with Dutch and Ambonese troops (with British uniforms and equipment); a parade of shops can be seen in the background. A Bren gunner with his weapon; cigarettes are handed out in the background. Crowd clamouring for more. A street with rather less friendly-looking civilians; red and white flags of the Indonesian republic hang from buildings (a sign gives the distance to Singaradja (Singaraja) as 119 kilometres). Shot of a paddy field in the foreground, parked vehicles (including an ambulance) in the midground, and LST and merchantman in the background. A column of waiting motor vehicles. Japanese labourers unloading boxes from an LCA. Brief shot from inside an LST looking through its bow doors towards the beach. Piles of lifebelts and pick axes in the foreground, and a human chain of Japanese labourers leading down to the water's edge. Two LSTs with open bow doors, one LST 3502, the other probably LST 3010, with Japanese labourers rolling a bundle of wire. Group of local people watching. Close-up of the Dutch beachmaster. Line of waiting vehicles on a Japanese-built road on the beach. Japanese carrying crates from LST 3502. Brief shot of the beach with the beached LST 3010.
