The senior officers on the saluting base come down the steps and Mountbatten departs by open-topped staff car with another officer, probably Brigadier P A B McKerron, the Deputy Chief Civil Affairs Officer, British Military Administration Malaya. Local civilians; pan to the steps with waiting officers and a number of women, representing the women's services of the occupation force, stepping down.
