Summary: At Bandoeng in Java, Netherlands East Indies (Bandung, Indonesia), the Royal Air Force delivers supplies by parachute after nationalist forces close the road from Batavia (Jakarta).
Description: A loaded lorry reverses up to a waiting RAF Douglas Dakota transport aircraft. The lorry is unloaded by Japanese internees (either civilians or surrendered military personnel) and boxes put aboard the aircraft. Aerial views of paddy fields, mountains (with the aircraft passing close to steep slopes) and clouds and a profile close-up of the pilot, but a little too low. At Bandoeng airfield an official of the Allied Military Administration Civil Affairs Bureau (AMACAB) checks off supplies against a list. Japanese labourers unload boxes. The laden lorry drives away. Loaded lorries parked with (Japanese?) men sheltering in their shadows. Pan and tilt of a wall of stacked boxes. A lorry is unloaded and the boxes carried into a store. Control tower at Bandoeng. Sign 'Officer in charge 70 Air Despatch ANDIR' (Andir a location east of Bandoeng). Dakota taxiing with the undercarriage of another in foreground. Sign 'Emergency Food Shop'. Civilians queueing for rations. Man squatting on the ground. Children. Civilians carrying their rations in bags. Looking up at a Dakota with propellers spinning. Airborne interior Dakota with supplies being despatched to a 'townlet' at Tjiandjoer; good views of the dropzone and palm trees. Dakota passing overhead at Tjiandjoer; a supply bundle is despatched supported by four parachutes (some heavy or fragile piece of equipment?) and the dropzone appears to be a football pitch. More Dakotas passing with single-parachute bundles dropping. Tented camp at Batavia airfield with sign '31 Squadron Headquarters - Royal Air Force' and displaying the squadron badge (a star on a laurel wreath). Dakotas taking off and landing.
