- Description: The celebrations involve an Italian contingent parade and marchpast, chiefly of the field guns, watched by the contingent's commander, General di Robillant. A posed group of General Peppino Garibaldi, commanding the Brigade Alpi in France, Signorina Italia Garibaldi of the Red Cross and Commandant Benitti Garibaldi who volunteered to fight in France in 1914, with other officers. British and French troops, and some civilians, walk through the recently re-captured town of Béthune. British soldiers have repaired the German tank 'Elfriede', captured in April, so that it now moves under its own power. British and French soldiers ride on top. Sergeant Baylis, the US "Ace of Aces" with twelve kills, talks with members of 3ième Escadrille beside one of their Spad 13s. (Note the Stork markings.) Baylis is posed by himself alongside a Spad. The action by 28th Infantry Regiment, 1st Division, was the first major military engagement by US forces (in company with the French) in the First World War. From a short distance back the Schneider CA1 tanks are shown moving off towards the barrage at dawn, with the Infantry rising up from their trenches and walking slowly after them. Later, the Schneiders return along a dirt track, along which filter American and French wounded and German prisoners. Accompanied by M Dumesnil, the Under-Secretary for Air, Commandant Féchamp decorates two French airmen at a parade. Lieutenant Garros becomes an Officer of the Legion of Honour and Lieutenant Marchal a Knight of the Legion. After the awards Dumesnil congratulates both men and the parade marches past. Clémenceau uses neither helmet nor gasmask. He begins at a senior officer's headquarters and goes down into the trenches to talk to the troops.
