Summary: 2nd Battalion, the Rifle Brigade, on the Western Front, autumn 1917.
Description: Groups of men and officers pose for the camera. The men soap their equipment, and clean their uniforms and rifles. One man stands in a pit with a Lewis machine gun on an anti-aircraft mount and a pair of binoculars. Cooks carry dixies of food to a temporary cookhouse, and soup is served out. The battalion rests outside some huts. Sides of meat are unloaded from a wagon. Two companies from the battalion march along a dirt road near the front.
