The 3-woman crew of a narrow-boat barge and towed-boat combination carrying coal on the canals south from the Midlands: the film stresses the skill and arduousness of the work (canal locks etc); slowness of this method of transport paid for in relief on road and rail pressure. II. The manufacture of fibreglass, and its use in various different forms as insulation (both thermal and electrical).
III. The Stage Door Canteen in London ("where Hollywood and British Stars entertain Allied Forces personnel") opens. Appearances by Fred Astaire and Bing Crosby.
