Summary: Scenes at Kabul International Airport, including washing facilities for RAF personnel and views from airport roof.
Description: I. Outside in tented camp, water is heated in an adapted oildrum and decanted through tap into plastic bowls. RAF servicemen take these into makeshift washing area behind screens; bowls are placed on trestles and servicemen shave and wash. Shots of open air latrines - wooden structures with each cubicle concealed behind canvas "doors". Shots of the feet of servicemen using them.
II. General views of the airport from high elevation. Various shots and pans show the tented camp and wash facilities, main terminal building (the centre for humanitarian aid passing through the airport), wrecked aircraft, RAF Regiment sangar, trucks moving, aircraft on runway and air traffic control tower. Line of men from 5131 RAF Bomb Disposal Squadron conduct an area search in the scrub. Transport aircraft banks overhead and comes in to land.
III. Interview with RAF Regiment officer R B Lockwood, SWO (Station Warrant Officer) for the Kabul APOD, discussing the poor condition of the airport when the RAF arrived, the current conditions after continuing reconstruction and the use of local Afghan labour in the rebuilding of the airport.
