Summary: Scenes of life in the city of Kabul, including extended shots of Kabul streets.
Description: I. SWO Lockwood shops for furniture (for the reception area at Kabul Airport) in central Kabul. In a furniture workshop, he chooses material and orders several sofas, discussing the details with furniture-maker through interpreter. Scenes in the street outside, where there is a market. SWO, interpreter and cameraman get into the back of a Land Rover, watched by curious local children. The Land Rover drives off: extended shot through (slightly dirty) rear window shows the streets of Kabul receding behind. One of the boys (on a bicycle) follows the Land Rover for some distance. Voices of the occupants can be heard. At one point, a local man flags down the Land Rover and the interpreter gets out to talk to him.
II. Further shots from rear of Land Rover; these have been taken later, and show the Land Rover on patrol (the rear window through which the cameraman shoots has now been cleaned). The Land Rover leaves base and drives to the outskirts of Kabul. Several streets are seen receding behind the Land Rover (there are jump cuts within the sequence). Land Rover returns to base.
