Summary: Scenes at Kabul International Airport, featuring 5131 RAF Bomb Disposal Squadron.
Description: I. Elaborate practical joke against bomb disposal man. He strips naked, puts on protective clothing, gathers equipment (torches etc) then has a rope attached to his waist. He is lowered towards a stream with a culvert, ostensibly to invesigate an unexploded device in the water; however, just before he touches the water, he is told that it is all a hoax. "Bastards!" he shouts, amiably.
II. Bomb disposal men in grassland at edge of runway carry out area clearance, using probes to search the ground for unexploded ordnance; UN Fokker F28 aircraft (ZS-JES, on lease from AirQuarius Aviation) taxies past and takes off in background.
III. Bomb disposal man Corporal Andrew Farmer discusses his work and talks about the vast array of bomblets and other ordnance which litter the area around the airport. Wrecked Soviet-era vehicles are in the grass in the background. Hercules aircraft lands. Cloud of smoke can be seen on the horizon (cause unknown). Search od airfield continues: fragmentation bomblets are found and prepared for controlled explosion. They are packed in the earth, wired up with P4 explosive and surrounded by a large rubber tyre to absorb the shrapnel (airport is still active - Iranian C130 Hercules taxies past on the slipway behind). Long shot of detonation - the protective tyre is sent flying high into the air. Bomb disposal men cautiously approach the area.
