Film Number:A70 113-25
Other titles:
Summary: 43rd (Wessex) Division's 129th Brigade tackles Mont Pincon's western slopes while the rest of the division consolidates its grip on newly-won ground.
Description: A 43rd Recce. Regiment trooper turned PIAT operator keeps watch from his slit-trench as a Loyd carrier and a Churchill AVRE rumble past. A Bren gunner is covered in dust by a 13/18th Hussars Firefly tank as it moves up to join 129th Brigade. German mortar bombs explode on the thickly-wooded slopes of Mont Pincon as the 4th Battalion Somerset Light Infantry fights its way towards the summit. A convoy of 30th Corps RASC Fordson and Dodge 3-tonners ferrying supplies to the front grinds its way slowly up the Caen-Vire highway beyond Jurques; two 1st Worcester Regiment trucks head past the road convoy in the opposite direction. Black smoke rises on the distant slopes of Mont Pincon after a rocket- attack made by RAF fighter-bombers. Two 4th Dorset Regiment riflemen patrol the recently-captured village of Ondefontaine, still littered with its previous occupant's equipment. The village church, used as a mortuary by the Germans, has survived the fighting.
