Summary: Operational scenes during Exercise Western Strike in Newfoundland and Labrador.
Description: I. Civil aircraft take-offs and landings at Goose Bay; E3D Sentry and Tornado aircraft are also seen taking off.
II. Extended sequence during which members of 615 TACP (Tactical Air Control Party) on rocky hilltop discussing the location of various test targets in the far distance. Spotting scopes, binoculars and LF28A laser target designator are used; field telephone is used. Coordinates are entered into computer. General shots of the landscape. Soldiers eat sandwiches and use protective gauze over their camouflage and hats (to guard against insects). Soldiers watch as low-flying fighter aircraft in the far distance make several runs past targets, eventually dropping a bomb on target.
III. Interview with Flight Lieutenant Ian Shaw RAF Regiment OC 615 TACP about the party's support for ground attack aircraft.
IV. Interview with Sergeant Andy Smith, 2IC of the TACP.
V. Further scenes of the TACP in action, communicating with command, with further bombing runs from ground attack aircraft (explosions seen on ground). Tornado flies directly overhead.
VI. Flight Lieutenant Shaw rides a quad bike. Shots of small fire in the forest. As evening draws in, a Lynx helicopter flies in and lands in an area set aside: it is a search and rescue (SAR) helicopter with the words "Canada Rescue Sauvetage" on the side.
