Summary: Ceremony to commemorate the unveiling of a statue to Brigadier James Hill of 3rd Parachute Brigade at Le Mesnil, France, 5 June 2004.
Description: Veterans and their families gather prior to the ceremony. French and British wreaths by monument. Veteran stands nearby wearing his medals and beret. Monument to Brigadier Hill. Spectators line the road as VIP cars drive past under motorcycle escort. Band of the Parachute Regiment march on followed by flag-bearers (veterans from the Parachute Brigade). Statue stands draped in a Union flag. Prince Charles and other VIPs, including General Sir Mike Jackson, (who was born on D-Day) arrive to the sound of applause. (Unveiling not seen.) After ceremony, Prince Charles mingles with veterans and their wives as well as current members of the Parachute Regiment. Excerpts from religious ceremony by Brigadier Hill's monument.
