  • Description: I. Extracts from the unveiling and dedication of the Memorial, which has been draped in British and French flags. Speech in French and English by representative of Saint Omer. Royal Air Force and French Air Force personnel stand to attention. Speech by Air Chief Marshal Sir Frank Sowrey. A spectator films the proceedings with his camcorder. Tricolore and Union Flag fly. Prayers are said, and Air Commodore Peter Dye (RAF Personnel and Training Command) reads a passage from Isaiah. The memorial is unveiled by Air Marshal Sir Brian Burridge (C-in-C HQ RAF Strike Command) and Lieutenant General Jean Patrick Gaviard (French Air Force), and the dedication is given. Senior officers and guest of honour Henry Allingham take the salute. The Last Post is played; wreaths are laid by senior officers, Henry Allingham, sponsors, French veterans and representatives of Squadron Associations. The camera position changes to the rear of the memorial, where the SE5a and Nieuport 17 aircraft are parked. Flypast by jets. Colour parties march off. Senior officers take the salute as airmen and band march past. II. Interview with Air Marshal Sir Brian Burridge about the significance of the day's events and the presence of Henry Allingham.
