Summary: Members of 51 Squadron RAF Regiment on patrol in Basra.
Description: Members of 51 Squadron pack kit and supplies (bottled water) into the back of a Land Rover prior to patrol. Morning briefing for the regiment. Before setting off, soldiers shoo a cat from Land Rover. Loading bay: weapons are prepared. Shots from back of Land Rover as it sets off on patrol: concrete barriers passed, and sign for "Basrah International Airport". Second Land Rover drives behind. vehicles drive into the outskirts of Basra, where bottled water is handed out to excited children. Man with donkey walks past. British officer meets with elder. Outside, local people and children greet the patrol; Sergeant "Dusty" Miller hands out sweets. Land Rovers set off again; small boys give chase. Land Rovers stop; Patrol visits local school; Sergeant Miller enters and talks with school teachers (through interpreters). Visit to classroom. Patrol leaves and heads along dusty roads into the centre of Basra; views from rear of Land Rover. Refinery in background at one point. Ruined buildings are passed. Patrol stops; soldiers chat to children and local elders. Visit to second school, which has a plaque saying "This school was presented by No 1 Squadron RAF Regiment on behalf of Basrah Air Station and Icing [sic] 22 August 2004". Sergeant Miller meets with headmaster and teachers. Visit to classroom (older children than previous school). Outside, children cluster around the camera as Sergeant Miller talks with elders. Patrol sets off again, children in pursuit: a bottle of water is thrown to one child who picks it up gratefully.
