- Description: I. Convoy of heavy vehicles (including heavy equipment on transporters) prepare to move off. US Army Humvee stands watch II. Ruined vehicles (civilian) on the side of deserted airfield (Safwan). At one end of the pan, Royal Engineers vehicles are parked. Earth movers digs sand at the edge of the runway. Soldier directs vehicle movements of the heavy plant as they construct earthen ridges at the edge of the airfield. Shot of Iraqi emplacement with white flag flying and fire burning in drum. Sunset over hillside at Safwan, behind pylons. General views of abandoned airfield with soldiers on patrol. III. Members of the Tactical Supply Wing unpack elements of a bulk fuel installation from the back of a lorry. Final check of ground, levelled by the earth movers in preparation. Heavy lifter (flying large Union flag) removes the base sheet which is laid out by members of the TSW and stretched tight. Soldier stands watch with SA80 raised. Construction of the fuel installation continues. Lynx helicopter flies overhead. IV. Briefing for camera: Warrant Officer Petit describes an incident where a Land Rover was damaged by an anti-tank mine. The road has now been closed and sealed in a search for further mines. Close-ups of the damaged Land Rover, with trail of white tape showing the safe way to it. Engineer vehicles prepare; in the background is a UN checkpoint flying Kuwaiti flag; sign says "Vehicles with Iraqi license plates are forbidden from proceeding further". Cable is pulled out from CET. Soldiers conduct an inch-by-inch search of the surrounding area. CET drags wreckage from around the damaged Land Rover. Soldiers inspect the Land Rover before the stricken vehicle is hauled up onto the road by CET and driven away. UN Checkpoint; sign saying "Warning! You are approaching the border of Kuwait". Iraqi civilians stand in the background. Heavy mover is used to move debris (including the remains of a hut/caravan) from the side of the road. Minefield with exposed anti-tank mines. WO Petit shows the remnants of exploded mine (an Italian-made VS 1.6), which he will be putting with the other ones for detonation. Convoy of vehicles is allowed to pass along the road. Further checks (by hand and with probe) for unexploded ordnance; white tape is used to mark off safe area. Makeshift sign: "Unexploded ordanance [sic] Stay on road". Warrant Officer Petit describes in more detail the incident with the Land Rover; he describes how the mines will be neutralised by combat engineers after the area has been cleared. Local Iraqis put up a sign at the roadside: "The Centre of Iraq Freedom for Succour"; ruined buildings in background. Royal Engineers convoy passes: locals wave.
