Summary: Puma helicopter activities during Operation Telic 1.
Description: I. Puma helicopter stored in hold of ship. Behind, a large forklift takes out a large metal box rotor blades onto the quayside in port. Back inside, wheels are put on the Puma and a Land Rover helps to manoeuvre it onto the quayside. It is towed next to other Pumas. Maintenance, including the reattachment of rotor blades using lorry-mounted crane. Royal Marine (?) keeps watch. Three Pumas on quayside; each takes off and flies away. Aerial shots of port from within one of the helicopters: shots of crew and loadmaster. Coastal views and air-to-air shots of the two other Pumas. Flight over desert. Landing at airfield.
II. Puma maintenance and general activities on airfield. Refuelling from bowser. One of the Pumas is linked to a generator for recharging its batteries.
III. Night sequence filmed with an image intensifier (giving the footage a grainy, monochrome green glow). Views of tented camp, with Union flag flying. Puma helicopter (33 Squadron ?) with loadmaster in the doorway; interior scenes including the cabin. Puma takes off; view from the side door shows another Puma flying alongside. Cockpit, with dials glowing green. Close-up of loadmaster's face as he sits in the open doorway; lights shine on the ground below. Helicopter lands and crew disembark.
