Description: (28 July 1941) Female workers at Eastleigh Carriage & Wagon factory, filling traditionally male roles. Two female workers hone their skills in a mobile workshop. Inside the factory, a variety of work is being undertaken, including; carpentry, drilling and welding. At the end of the sequence; piles of timber are shown being pushed out of the factory, and then loaded into railway wagons. MH138-141
(3 August 1941) Home Guard parade, starting from outside the Memorial Arch at Waterloo Station, London. They are led out by the County of London Home Guard band. A crowd has gathered to watch. En route they march past St. Georges Cathedral, Saint Georges Road in South London, not long before it was severely damaged in an air raid. 8 min 30 sec; on arrival at “Bethlehem Park” (now Geraldine Mary Harmsworth Park) the Home Guard form a line for inspection by a Brigadier General. (6 August 1941) Presentation of the “Blue Water” medal by the American Cruising Club to the Royal Cruising Club. Inside a wooden panelled room (“Old Hall, Lincoln’s Inn”) the medal is presented by an American Cruising Club representative (US Navy Admiral?) to his Royal Cruising Club counterpart, camera flashes begin to pop (Technical: underexposed). Other dignitaries, including a British Navy Admiral, sit in the row behind. The room has a tightly packed audience, many of whom are military personnel, including a Lieutenant-Commander and a Vice-Admiral from the Royal Navy. (10 min 47 sec) MH144
