Description: (23 December 1941) A government order of railway wagons (due to be supplied to Russia) being built at Ashford Works in Kent. The sequence shows key elements in the manufacturing process, starting with machine tool work. An underframe component is then lifted onto a set of wheels, and taken outside to be primed by workmen with brushes. The completed underframe is then loaded into a freight railway wagon. A new sequence begins at 3 minutes 20 seconds; with a female worker heating metal in a furnace for moulding. The film then cuts back to shots inside the workshop, as components are fitted to the underframe section. Close-up shots of individual parts being machined by a female worker, followed by various wagon components stacked-up outside. MH173-174
(7 January 1942) A new sequence begins at 7 minutes; as ALCs (Assault Landing Craft) are being lifted off flat railway wagons and placed onto the water, by dockside crane at Southampton Docks (South coast of England). The reel finishes with workmen going aboard an ALC to detach it from the crane's hoists. MH1770-178
