Description: (2-3 December 1944) The “HAMPTON FERRY” arriving into the French harbour at Cherbourg and unloading an American 2-8-0 locomotive. The opening sequence is taken from the deck of the ferry overlooking the harbour entrance, and then slowly coming into dock. The locomotive is lifted by an overhead crane and rotated 180 degrees before being lowered onto the dockside. A second US Army “TRANSPORTATION CORPS” locomotive is then brought up to haul it away. In the second part of the sequence the crane lifts an American “TRANSPORTATION COPRS” 0-6-0 locomotive (No. 4401) from the on-board perspective. Again, the locomotive is rotated and lowered onto the tracks, assisted by several crew members. The crane is then shown being used at close quarters; having its hoist attached to the locomotive and the crane operator’s cab being used. The ship’s captain is also featured, and the previous content is repeated from different angles and perspectives. SH382-384
