The final two sequences in the film feature a “CRO conference at Brunswick House”, and mocked-up examples of double deck railway carriages.
- Description: (17 December 1948) The opening of Tadworth Police College in Surry. The film begins with a close-up of a police sergeant shouting orders, followed by the college building and three rows of police officers lined-up for inspection. A group of senior police officers undertake the inspection, followed by, a march past of male and female officers. The scene then cuts to inside the college building where a senior police officer shows dignitaries around the new facilities. Finally, there are some training demonstrations and some speeches made to a seated audience of police officer and other dignitaries. SH426-427 (22 January 1949) A naming ceremony for the “HIGHLAND LIGHT INFANTRY” locomotive at Glasgow Central Station. Opening with a “BRITISH RAILWAY” headed curtain being pulled back to reveal a “HIGHLAND LIGHT INFANTRY – THE CITY OF GLASGOW REGIMENT” plaque. The new locomotive (No. 46121) is then featured in a close-up before the dignitaries arrive, including the Lord Provost (?), Major General Urquhart from the Highland Light Infantry Regiment and “CRO Mr Cameron”. The dignitaries then inspect troops from the Highland Light Infantry Regiment, including pipers, before a small seated audience. Formal speeches and the unveiling of the name plaque are undertaken, before the regimental piper plays out the locomotive as it leaves the platform. Ending the sequence is the presentation of a picture to Major General Urquhart of the new locomotive. (3 min 18 sec) SH428-429 (15 February 1949) A naming ceremony for the “SIR EUSTACE MISSENDEN” (the General Manager of the Southern Railway during the Second World War) locomotive (No. 34090) at Waterloo Station, London. Opening with the engine, followed by dignitaries meeting Southern Railway staff (?). A crowd have gathered to watch, as dignitaries give speeches from a temporary platform beside the new locomotive. The curtain is then pulled back to reveal the “SIR EUSTACE MISSENDEN – SOUTHERN RAILWAY – BATTLE OF BRITAIN CLASS” plaque, before Sir Missenden (?) boards the engine driver's cab. (7 min 03 sec) SH430 (22 February 1949) The “CRO conference at Brunswick House”. A room full of smartly dressed men are seated in the conference room, taking turns to speak. The scene then cuts to the attendees around a large meeting table, where discussions take place amongst piles of documents. (9 min 05 sec) SH431 (25 February 1949) Mocked-up examples of double deck railway carriages at Marylebone Station, West London. Male and female actors enter the carriages and use a set of stairs to ascend to the second level. They demonstrate the carriages practical design for gathered press and officials.
