Summary: A film on fuel economy directed at Southern Railway employees.
Description: The film cites coal production difficulties and urges the careful use of coal on railways, both in the coal yards and on locomotives (with staged film of a controller ticking off drivers and firemen for needless waste - quite well done). Efficient and economic use of coal on a locomotive is compared to that at home. Other domestic economies are illustrated - waste of gas etc. The film deals with further examples of waste and of savings in electricity and water, illustrated with scenes in offices, dripping taps, water overflowing from locomotive's tank etc, shots of pumping and power stations. A graph compares gas and electricity consumption in 1941 and 1942. The film concludes with a (reasonably well delivered) message to camera by Commander Stephen King-Hall MP who is responsible for power savings.
