Australian troops train and embark to fight Hitler (in spite of Japanese threat); the home front war effort; the North African campaign - Wavell's defeat of the Italians, German counter attack, Tobruk. (Reel 2) Balkan and Crete campaign (captured film). Hitler attacks Russia; Japan attacks - Malaya falls (graphics only); New Guinea campaign in appalling conditions - battles for Port Moresby (Reel 3) the Owen Stanley range, success against odds. Victory at Alamein and advances in New Guinea (long sequences of battles for Lae and Shaggy Ridge). Closing montage of titles recording theatres of war and film of a parade of Australian troops: "the end of the story remains to be written".
