Summary: The occupation of Iceland during WWII by Canadian and British soldiers.
Description: Film opens with material on German invasion, by air and sea, of Norway (captured film illustrates the "new technique") - maps explain how a similar invasion of Iceland could threaten Britain (tighter blockade) and Canada (via Greenland). The allied occupation, therefore, is a protective move: troops arrive in Reykjavik, unload ships, trucks, timber, coal, guns), build gun positions, lay telephones, put up living quarters (tents and then Nissen huts). Shots to demonstrate readiness (carriers 'scramble', men stop filling sandbags to man AA guns) alternate with scenes of relaxation (tug of war, horseshoe pitching, bathing in hot springs, church parade, pipes and drums) and befriending locals (especially children) - meanwhile sequences of captured film of Stukas, U-boats and S-boats acting against shipping reinforce the "not a moment too soon" theme.
