Dame Laura Knight and her model Ruby Loftus are accompanied by Director-General of Royal Ordnance Factories Sir Charles McLaren on their visit to the Royal Academy Summer exhibition to see Dame Laura's painting of Miss Loftus at work on a lathe. Item concludes with view of Miss Loftus actually at work. II. "On the Soviet industrial front." Russian war production (view of mortars and ack-ack) is on "a stupendous scale. Good folks of USSR believe that God helps those who help themselves. They and we are members of the free world fighting and working to make a better way of life in which no man will be exploited." III. "Warrior of the week." A Sergeant describes the old method of detecting mines, prodding bayonets into the sand, then film shows the new mine-detector which is considerably safer. IV. "Allies on move east of Suez" a. Troops from the Belgian Congo under white officers and with Belgian nurses disembark at a port in the Middle East. b. Lieutenant General Holmes visits an Army ski school in Syria. V. "Break through in Tunisia." Bostons drop anti-personnel bombs, Churchill tanks advance near Medjez-el-Bab and are attacked by Me 109s, Germans surrender and wounded are tended.
