Description: First half shows the "Emergency Schools" which cater for non-evacuated pupils, combining a town's schools. Laboratory and classroom scenes, as boys are taught chemistry, maths, art, geography, woodwork, PT Wartime changes include women teachers in boys school, and use of erasable blocks to save paper, but film claims communal spirit is still achieved, and academic standards maintained - boys sit School Certificate. Second half shows an evacuated girls' school; country surroundings give new dimension to lessons, and call for practical domestic science work (house decorating, cooking). Girls also shown doing needlework for war effort; secretarial training; and entering shelter trenches in playing field during an air-raid alarm.
