Description: Film opens with shots of Newark, Nottinghamshire, "an English country town" enjoying peace "but only because of those men up there" - shots of General Sikorski opening the Polish airmen's cemetery in the town. Film then looks further back: German invasion of Poland; Polish leadership (Sikorski and Paderewski) and armed forces in France, and in England (Sikorski with Churchill, Eden and Polish sailors, airmen and soldiers). Diplomacy: Sikorski with European heads of state; treaty with and visit to USSR; visit to Middle East, Gibraltar... Film ends with return of Sikorski's body, its lying in state and funeral, and burial at the cemetery in Newark. "His life during those last years was... a long weary journey back to Poland, but he was never destined to finish it... others will finish the journey".
