Summary:A tribute to American agriculture and the agricultural way of life, for the first half of the film purely as a way of life, in the second half as a vital if unspectacular contributor to the war to preserve democracy.
Description:Film opens with shots of agricultural activity on both large organisational (harvesting, crop spraying, sheep herding) and small personal (milking cows, feeding chickens) level; scenes of domestic life, country school, voting booth. Outbreak of war (Roosevelt in Congress) and war effort: agriculture provides the "sinews of war" - maize and wheat harvest, cotton picking and baling, cattle farming. Film closes with shots of food canning equipment and of (Lockheed) aircraft factory workers and soldiers eating.
