Summary: An explanation of the structure of the United Nations Organisation, and an appeal for support for it.
Description: Opening sequence recalls 1945 victory celebrations, and the immediately following renewal of tensions with the added problem of the atomic bomb. Leaving a little to one side the necessary precondition of formal world peace ("When the great powers in the council of foreign ministers establish peace...") the film explains that the world now has the capability to build on that foundation ("...only then will the United Nations be able to accomplish its great mission - to maintain peace, and advance the economic and social progress of all people"). The reason for confidence in UNO's capabilities where the League of Nations failed is the developed political machinery built into UNO's structure, which the rest of the film then explains, looking in turn at the General Assembly ("a world opinion is slowly being formed"), the Security Council (limit of veto rights to 5 powers seen as a major concession won at Yalta), the International Court (consideration of case of Albanian mines off Corfu), the Economic and Social Council, and the Trusteeship Council. Close urges support - "you must be on the side of life and on the side of hope".
