Title:PREPARATION AND FIRING OF RAE AND INDUSTRY GW (GROUND WARFARE) PROJECTS - LARKHILL TRIALS WING (LECTURE FILM) (REEL 1) [Allocated Title]
Film Number:DEA 48
Other titles:COLLECTION OF FILMS FROM DERA ABERPORTH [Allocated Title]
Summary: Film compilation, intended to accompany a lecture, showing the work of Larkhill and Aberporth.
Description: (Reel 1) Opening shot shows a map of the Range area, followed by trials footage of a number of test vehicles - CTV1, CTV2, CTV4, JTV, LTV and STV, and finally a Blue Sky missile launch from a Meteor wing. The film then moves on to record/trials analysis at RAE Bramshot and ends with sample trajectory graphs. (The Blue Sky footage is probably unique.)
(Reel 2) RTV1 (Rocket Test Vehicle) preparation and firing, including different phases of the programme. This is followed by RTV1 and other project failures, titled "Unforeseen events", including one labelled "boost hit dart control surfaces at separation" (this may be the Red Shoes round that made a land impact at New Quay, Wales, in April 1958), followed by two firings of an unidentified missile (but believed to be RTV1) at Larkhill with titles "Fins not strong enough" and "Round left fins at launcher".
