Summary: The village of Meijel presents a forlorn spectacle after its recapture by 15th (Scottish) Division's 44th Brigade.
Description: At the centre of the village, the cameraman surveys a gutted Roman Catholic church, destroyed by RAF Typhoon fighter bombers while in use by the Germans as an ammunition store and the adjacent streets evidently affected by the explosion. Inside the church, lumps of masonry block access to the roofless nave and the church entrance. One of the few inhabitants left in Meijel walks past the devastation along a road lined with debris cleared off the road. A sapper serving with 20th (?) Field Company RE probes for mines with a mine detector among brickwork spilled out onto the road.
