Summary: Compilation of footage of various airfield surface trials, including MEXE (Military Engineering Experimental Establishment) matting, both aluminium and rubber surfaces, artificial bumps on runways and various aircraft taxiing, taking off and landing on each surface. Also included are assorted trials, including a free-fall record (pre-oxygen and aircraft), and rocket seat testing using a de Havilland Sea Vixen, and jettison from a lorry. Aircraft featured include: a Blackburn Buccaneer, Lockheed C-130 Hercules 'XV177', Hawker Siddeley Andover 'XS596', a de Havilland Chipmunk, a Blackburn Beverley, a de Havilland Sea Vixen, and Armstrong Whitworth Argosy 'XN817.' Locations include RAF Upavon for membrane mat trials and at Larkhill for rocket seat trials.
