Summary: Parents of apprentices at the Chemical Defence Establishment at Porton Down attend an open day, where they are shown round the various facilities. These reels were shot with a view to possible in a film showing the range of apprentice training in CDE. Note that the reels do not appear to be in chronological order.
Description: (Reel 1) 0-100 A. Open day: the visitors enter the apprentices' workshops. Inside, the apprentices give demonstrations of their work, and explain pieces of laboratory equipment. (2 mins 40 secs)
(Reel 2) 100-200 B. Uniformed senior army officer and his wife enter building (Photographic Section) at Porton Down. A bus arrives carrying the visitors; they disembark and enter the Photographic Section (sign seen on wall). Close-up of Vauxhall Cresta (BHR 956B). The party leaves the building after attending an introductory lecture: (not shown) and walk along the road on their way to the main workshops. (2 mins 40 secs)
(Reel 3) 200-300 C. Tour of main Porton Down workshops, much larger and lighter than those of the apprentices. (2 mins 40 secs)
