Film Number:DED 200
Other titles:PORTON DOWN VIDEO COLLECTION [Allocated Series Title]
Summary: Tape copy of 16mm film original showing the effects of CS gas (and lack of them) on dogs.
Description: (Reel 1) (Silent) Dog and handler (latter wearing a gasmask) are taken into a room; the door is closed and a masked man sprays the room with CS gas. Diagrams are also shown.
(Reel 2) (Rough edit with narration) Investigations into the use of chemical agents to incapacitate but not harm have led to the development of CS gas (shot of its use in a real riot situation). Trained dogs can also be used to bring order; tests carried out to see whether dogs and CS could be used together. Test on "working dogs in CS conditions": comparison of the effects on two volunteers plus a dog in a closed room. The dog is much less affected by the gas than the men. (This tape has gaps in the picture at various places for editing purposes.)
