Summary: Record of an exercise in which bomb disposal and chemical teams tackle a suspect device hidden in the back of a crashed car in a semi-rural area.
Description: (Tape 1) Local policeman briefs the chemical and biological defence team. EOD (explosive ordnance disposal) team are already in place. "Wheelbarrow" remote controlled robot approaches the rear of the crashed car (a hatchback), and sends CCTV pictures to the support vehicle.
(Tape 2) The robot arm on the Wheelbarrow opens the rear door of the hatchback, and sends back CCTV of the device via its in-built camera. Team discuss the next move. Decontamination station is set up.
(Tape 3) Team in NBC (nuclear, biological and chemical) suits approach the car with CAMs (Chemical Agent Monitors) and wooden sticks with detector paper. The device - a large bottle attached to a pump - is examined and found to be leaking but not explosive.
(Tape 4) Device is sprayed with decontaminant; the bottle is lifted and the leak is sealed. Elements of the device are removed and bagged for safety. Decontamination using a CAD (chemical agent detection) kit. Clearance of site begins.
