Title:CS GRENADE ACTIVATED IN SMALL FURNISHED ROOM [Allocated Title]
Film Number:DED 269
Other titles:PORTON DOWN TRIALS NON-NITRATE COLLECTION [Allocated Series Title]
Summary: CS grenades are detonated in a room to test the effects of the cloud. Camera position is outside the (closed) window looking in. (At one point the cameraman, wearing a respirator, can be seen reflected in the glass.)
Description: Mock-up of a domestic room interior with bed, wardrobe and dresser, but also an electric cooker and a table. Arrays of sampling equipment are set up at various points in the room. The door is closed and a simulated CS grenade is triggered on the floor: the semi-opaque white gas cloud develops, filling the room. Views from various angles through the window, showing the cloud swirling inside; the furniture is now virtually invisible. (Close-ups show a large number of flies on the outside of the window.) Second run: room is now clear of CS gas, allowing a medical team to place food samples, cigarettes etc. at various places inside the room. One of them waves at the camera. Door is closed, again, and a CS grenade is remotely detonated. As before, the vapour cloud rapidly fills the room. Various views from outside the window, showing CS smoke leaking through the window frame and through a small pane which had been cut out to allow camera wires. Third run: general view of interior of room showing the sampling equipment. Cloud is started from a larger CS canister: vapour spreads quickly. Exterior view shows some leakage, but not as severe as last time. Samples of food and cigarettes, in packets, can be seen arranged on a table near the window. Fourth run: small CS grenade detonated, cloud forms. Views from outside of the swirling mist.
