Other titles:PORTON DOWN NON-NITRATE COLLECTION [Allocated Series Title]
Summary: Two sets of tests show baton rounds; the two rolls were taken three years apart.
Description:(Reel 1) Black metal box is seen in position on the range; a small group of circular red detonators is grouped on the front. Baton rounds are fired at the box from off-screen. A large number of firings are seen; in most of them, the impact on the box can barely be seen, until the final shots, when one of the detonators is hit and a plume of thick grey smoke is emitted. Dated 22 July 1968. (2 mins 40 secs)
(Reel 2) Scene on the range, with a field in the background and a concrete wall to the right of the screen. Baton rounds can be seen bouncing off the wall above a large white metal canister, which is presumably the target. Cut to long shot of the baton gun being fired by a man wearing a grey suit. In a series of jump cuts, various other people appear with him. Views of the wall as baton rounds bounce against it. (Reel ends with shaky, useless shots taken indoors.) Dated 7 May 1971. (1 min 45 secs)
