Summary: A recruiting film for the non-flying branches of the RAF, built around an impression of the life of Peter, a typical trainee.
Description:Opening shots of an RAF trainees' summer camp lead into a flash-back to Peter's last school days: alone among his friends he acts on a common dream of entering the RAF, speaking with a visiting officer. While his friends 'career' hopes turn to grim reality ('motor industry' means garage hand etc) Peter signs on for "9 years of good pay, good prospects and a chance to see the world." A long, detailed picture of life at training school follows, covering the various career options (from specialist engineering to accountancy or cooking), the sporting and recreational facilities, and the pattern of training and field exercises. A qualified mechanic, looking back over his career (Valiants, Javelins and missiles) and postings (Singapore) since completing his training, suggests the future awaiting Peter. Over film of the graduation parade, the commentary closes with a final reminder of the RAF's dependence on its tradesmen and technicians, and a direct appeal.
