Summary: Demonstration carried out to prove the effectiveness of Chobham armour.
Description: First a controlled plate of armoured steel is fired at, followed by a Chobham armour target exactly the same weight. Both targets are positioned at 60 degrees to renconstruct a vehicle front. First attack is with a 100mm ADPS shot simulation a typical range of 100m fired from a standard Chieftain, then a 127mm high explosive shape charge fired statically. Both attacks severely over match the control plate, without Chobham armour in a vehicle crew members could have been killed. And a full-length restricted demo version with delegates viewing the demonstrations.
