Summary: A fragment of an apparently German documentary consisting of film of Shanghai at the time of the Kuomintang-Communist disturbances of 1927.
Description: Explained by titles which favour the communist side, the film shows: popular demonstrations and mass meetings (with many people armed) in the Chinese quarter; measures for self-defence in the 'Concessions' (foreign quarter) - including disembarkation of troops, construction of sandbag fortifications, aerial surveillance of the Chinese, etc; General Chiang Kai-shek makes a speech ("General Ischa Kai Schy betrays his country") and on his orders "extremists" are suppressed or executed; the foreigners stage a parade or show of strength in the 'concessions' while their warships remain in the harbour and work on the fortifications continues - meanwhile, in the Chinese quarter, as the film shows, dead bodies (some decapitated) lie in the streets.
