Summary: Documentary about RFC pilot, Charles Chabot, in the First World War, including many anecdotes and film of early aircraft flying as well as modern reconstructions.
Description: "Looking back now it all seems a bit of a lark" says Charles Chabot, and sums up the tone of the documentary which consists of anecdotes told by Chabot himself, early flying film, film of First World War aircraft of a modern Collection flying today, still photographs and music hall songs. The programme is designed to capture the flavour of excitement, adventure, danger and, most of all, fun of the early fliers. Chabot tells of learning to fly at Brooklands and his early experiences in the Royal Flying Corps Reserve, of his experiences in France and the incredibly primitive nature of early aerial warfare, of the several accidents he had and of his experiences in Mesopotamia. There is good original material of several aircraft in the air and on the ground: the Maurice Farman Longhorn and Shorthorn, the Bleriot monoplane, the B2c, the Bristol Fighter and the Sopwith Camel. Everything is illustrated by still photographs as well.
