Summary: A film revisiting the Canadian battlefields and cemeteries of World War II.
Description: Tribute is paid to the Canadian dead of the two World Wars by retracing their steps in many well known theatres of war in Western Europe and the Far East, and examining the memorials and cemeteries that mark these locations today. Surviving inhabitants of towns liberated by the Canadians recall their experiences; cemeteries and war memorials are visited in many places including Hong Kong, Dieppe, Beny-sur-mer, Londonderry, Cassino, the Netherlands, Ypres (the Menin Gate) and preserved battlefields at Beaumont Hamel, Vimy Ridge and Passchendaele. Sound effects and short sequences of actuality footage of battle are used to provide stark contrast between conditions of war and peace.
