Summary: Newsreel devoted to the Armistice Day celebrations in London, 11th November 1918.
Description: People surge together through the streets of central London, waving Union Jacks and cheering. Charabancs and lorries pass up the Strand, their occupants also cheering. The crowd marches up the Mall to Buckingham Palace, joined by a few US troops waving and carrying the Stars and Stripes. The King and Queen, seen in long shot, appear on the palace balcony with the Duke of Connaught and Princess Mary standing beside them. Among those watching in the crowd, close to the camera by other soldiers, is Field Marshal Sir Henry Wilson, the Chief of the Imperial General Staff. Queen Mary, on the balcony, can be seen to wave a small Union Jack. Convalescent soldiers watch from inside the palace railings. The bandsmen on duty give three cheers for the King. At the Houses of Parliament the Prime Minister, David Lloyd George, appears through the cheering crowd and is driven off in a car. The royal coach drives to the thanksgiving service at Saint Paul's Cathedral, where the Lord Mayor of London is waiting with the aldermen. The various dignitaries follow the King into the cathedral. A view from an airship (another airship is sometimes indistinctly in sight) shows central London during the celebrations. London Bridge, Westminster Bridge and the Houses of Parliament are all prominent.
