Summary: Scenes in Calais and Dunkirk during the latter part of the Second World War, possibly compiled for use in newsreels.
Description: I. Calais: troops travelling by carrier and motorcycle through the deserted streets. Views across waterway (Canal de Calais ?). Scenes in a devastated Calais, including le Grand Theatre de Calais and the Hotel de Ville. Abandoned bunker and wrecked box girder bridge. Damaged locks. Various views of the damage. (Probably shortly after liberation in October 1944. Not yet located elsewhere in the collection.)
II. Dunkirk: refugees make their way along the road outside town; vehicles are stopped and checked by British troops. Refugees make their way across a makeshift bridge in a village, possibly Grande Mille Brugghe (this maybe the six-hour truce between 154th Brigade and Dunkirk's German defenders on 4 October 1944 - see A70 173-6).
