Description: The film opens with a short introductory sequence of archive film stills and maps briefly covering the history of the German battleship Tirpitz.
The main body of the film deals with the British Sub Aqua Club (under the leadership of Peter Cornish) and Royal Engineers Diving team's attempts to locate the remains of the missing X 5 submarine in the Kaafjord, by the use of co-ordinated diving technics and sonar equipment. The Expedition failed to locate wreck of the X 5 but located the nose and battery section it's sister submarine X 7. The sections of the X 7 were eventually listed of the bed of the fjord by means of air filled lifting balloons and these sections were deposited at the Imperial War Museum, Duxford airfield. Includes film of a brief interview with Rear Admiral Godfrey Place VC, commander of the X craft X 7.
