Description: Reel 1: Views of the ramparts and entrance to the citadel at Verdun. Red Cross flag flying over temporary hospital holed by German artillery fire, although military barracks remain undamaged. French military activity continues despite German attacks: fire brigade at work, temporary camp near town, transfer of a division, endless procession of weapons, supplies and shells for the troops, and an ammunition wagon.
Reel 2: French 7.5cm guns proceed to the fighting post. Aviators depart for the enemy lines. Entrance to a mine; compressed air perforator (pnematic drill) and mines exploding viewed from trench loophole. Battle of Avocourt starts with artillery barrage; heavy guns in action. "While the German guns spend most of their energy pulverizing fortifications and earthworks, the French guns are employed in mowing down men." French shells blow up a German ammunition depot, and fall behind Avocourt. Ceremonial decoration of banners followed by marchpast. "General Gouraud, the hero of the Dardanelles who lost his arm in action, reviews the 21st Corps on their return from Verdun", passing massed troops by car.
