Description: This film records the symptomatology of shell shock in eighteen British 'other rankers' and its treatment by two leading Royal Army Medical Corps neurologists, Dr (later Sir) Arthur Hurst and Dr J L M Symns, towards the end of the First World War. Clinical features shown include a variety of ataxic and hysterical gaits; facial tics and spasms; amnesia; word-blindness and word-deafness. The film also shows the use of physiotherapy, hypnotic suggestion, farm work, drill, and mock battles in the rehabilitation of convalescent patients.
