Summary: Wartime National Savings film showing the importance and benefit of National Savings, using a story set around a village Home Guard Unit.
Description: The Home Guard meets in a village hall, including three generations of the Jenkins family, all of whom are due to carry out a shift on guard duty. Each of the three men muse on their situation during their spell on guard. Grandfather Jenkins reminisces about 1916: he attends a George Robey concert before heading off to France. He remembers how War Savings Certificates were a way to pay for the war effort, and after the conflict, he was able to cash the certificates in, enabling him to buy land. His son Fred Jenkins relieves him on guard duty; Fred's thoughts go back to 1924 (Stanley Holloway is seen in performance). Fred saves money so he can get married to Molly; his savings help him during the depression in the 1930s and keeps alive the idea of thrift. His son Bill then takes over guard duty. He remembers seeing Pat Kirkwood singing in his canteen a week earlier, and is reminded of the importance of War Savings in the current war, because it is "everybody's war". National Savings help to build the matériel which helps to win the war.
