Summary: Record of a large post-war military display in Hyde Park in aid of the National Savings Committee.
Description: The crowds gather; among the spectators are Baron Mackintosh of Halifax, the Chairman of the National Savings Committee, and Air Marshal Sir Thomas Williams. Opening displays by the band of 2nd Battalion the Coldstream Guards, the RAF Police dog display team and the Pipe Band of 2nd Battalion the Scots Guards. London's last horse bus on parade, with Leonard Sachs and his company in Edwardian clothes (the bus has a contemporary National Savings poster on the front). A jeep assembly demonstrations; two teams from REME race to put together their vehicles and drive off in around seventy seconds. The Band of the Women's Royal Army Corps (WRAC). Lord Mackintosh gives an address about the savings campaign with the motto "Lend Our Strength for Britain". The Women's Royal Air Force (WRAF): band performance, and display by physical training team. Lowering of the White Ensign at the end of the display.
"London Savings Week: Lend Strength to Britain". National Savings Week is kicked off in London with a rally in Trafalgar Square; speakers include Lord Mackintosh and the Mayor of Westminster. Emphasis is on Britain's post-war rearmament; marquees in the square contain displays of fighting services and civil defence equipment.
