V. French newsreel item on General Pershing's visit to Paris, 14th June 1917.
Description: A view of the plain of Mulhouse from the town of Thann. The town is attractive and shows no signs of war. A young lady wearing traditional Alsatian costume holds an American flag in honour of the US entry into the war.
The ceremony is held in the square beside the Church of Saint Sophia. French and Greek troops form a guard of honour round the square while civilians watch. Prime Minister Venizelos arrives with General Danglis and Admiral Condouriotis to general acclaim. Their departure at the end of the ceremony is then shown.
Pershing begins his tour, escorted by various French military officials, at Les Invalides. He goes on to visit Napoleon's Tomb and see displays of captured enemy standards at the Musée de l'Armée. At Le Bourget airfield he meets the military governor of Paris, General Dubail, and they watch aircraft stunt flying above the airfield. Pershing talks to the pilots and meets a 14 year old refugee from Arras who has been adopted by them.
